Voting Day for Primary Elections May 6, 2014.The Key Issues
Having good-paying, stable job is the hallmark of the American dream. We need to get Congress working again towards a better economic future for everyone.
Let’s put America’s public school system back at the top of the class, and help our students and our nation succeed over a lifetime of learning.
Ensuring all Americans have access to affordable healthcare protects the lives and well-being of our citizens by putting people first.
Fixing our energy grid, roads, bridges, and technological divide can put millions of people to work and secure our nation’s future.
John’s #1 priority is to ensure the economic recovery benefits all Americans.
He will work to end bureaucratic red tape and help forge better strategic public-private alliances to foster opportunities for people and businesses in OhioLearn More
John believes retooling education to meet the demands of the 21st Century makes sense for our students and our economy.
Businesses need qualified workers in high-tech industries, and workers need good-paying jobs. Saddling our youth with lifelong education debt hurts our economy and cripples upward mobility. We can start our children off in the right direction with universal pre-Kindergarten programs, modern learning environments and curriculum, better trade school education, and more affordable public universities.Learn More
At some point or another, all Americans will have to visit a doctor because of an illness, health emergency or for preventative medicine.
Access to affordable health insurance is necessary to ensure all of our citizens can get quality medical care. In the past, our system faced runaway costs and punished those with pre-existing conditions by denying medical services. That system left approximately 45 million people without any insurance at all. Lets work together to make sure our new healthcare system works for the health and wellness of all Americans.Learn More
America’s energy and technology infrastructure is outdated and inefficient. Our roads and bridges are failing, and mass transportation is consistently put on the back burner.
John will work to renew investment in modernizing America’s infrastructure; creating jobs, spurring new markets, providing greater freedom and mobility, and improving the quality of life for many Americans.Learn More
John Sheil is one of five children who grew up in Anderson Township, where his parents instilled one very important lesson: “To whom much is given, much is expected.”
Education and overcoming obstacles were top priorities in the Sheil household, and through the sacrifices made by his family, John was able to attend the Guardian Angels School, St. Xavier High School, and then worked his way through Miami University studying classical humanities and the Latin, Greek, Italian and French languages with extended study learning abroad.
After graduating college, John’s first job was as a licensed stockbroker for Fidelity Investments, where he learned firsthand the complexities of the financial marketplace, and then moved on to working in small business at a design and manufacturing company producing Italian marble products using imagery from the Vatican Library for sale across the globe.
John also has managed customer service operations at Sun Chemical where he was instrumental in developing employee training programs, and, though his leadership, helped with the global roll out of computer software programs.
The Sheil family faced a challenge early in John’s childhood after the family’s youngest daughter was born with Down’s Syndrome. Due to the Sheil family philosophy of hard work and sacrifice, she is now an outspoken advocate for the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Cincinnati, which was founded 32-years ago with the help of John’s parents.
Outside of work, John is also an accomplished musician who plays the saxophone and guitar, as well as writing and producing original songs. “It was ultimately my love of music and my desire to help the local Cincinnati music community that inspired me to attend the Salmon P. Chase College of Law at Northern Kentucky University. It has been through the study and practice of law where I have maximized my skills and talents towards the service of others.”
While attending law school, John became the executive director for the non-profit organization “Play It Forward,” which was founded by local-radio personality Gary Burbank. Play It Forward assists Cincinnati-area musicians and their families facing tough times such as unexpected health emergencies that would otherwise have devastated these uninsured working families.
John continues to work in the community helping to sustain the cultural economy of Cincinnati by providing assistance for local artists and musicians in need of health care, with small business guidance, and legal advice and representation.
John also has expanded access to health care for the uninsured facing tough times through a strategic partnership with Mercy Heath. “Our health care advocacy will only increase after the Affordable Care Act takes full effect, and we will continue to educate and fight for the health of our local creative entrepreneurs and community members in the years ahead.”
After passing the Ohio Bar examination and starting his own law firm, J. Arthur Sheil & Associates, John has provided help to those in the community needing quality legal services. “While we market our services mainly to the entertainment community, our attorneys help all clients who walk into our office to get through some of the best and worst moments of their lives.”
John Sheil is a lifelong learner, world traveler, entrepreneur, small business owner, and loving husband and father of three. He is a tireless advocate for the poor and disenfranchised, a community organizer, and a true leader who will take his years of hard work and accomplishments to the U.S. House of Representatives to fight for Ohio’s 2nd District. John has chosen this path in order to make America a better place for everyone, regardless of class or status, with the goal of creating a government that once again works for the good of all the people.
